Green Day Tre Album Review

Well the last album in the new Green Day trilogy came out today. It was pretty... interesting to say the least.

1. Brutal Love – This song reminds me of Oh Love. It is not the typical album opening that I would expect from Green Day, but I like it. You can really hear the emotion in Billie-Joe’s voice.

2. Missing You – Can we say Letterbomb? Mike’s Bass groove in this song, is amazing. It reminds me of the one from Hitchin’ A Ride. “I get so lost out in the cold” I really like that because I feel that I can relate to it.

3. 8th Avenue Serenade – This song reminds me of Stay The Night from Uno. “Just sing to me a lullaby. Cradle songs from a new life. Don't forget to pass me by” I think that is so beautiful.

4. Drama Queen – This song reminds me of Peacemaker from 21st Century Breakdown. This song has some really strong imagery. “There goes my drama queen. She’s old enough to bleed now.” That lyric could be taken several ways. It is a little too intense.

5. X-Kid – The guitar in this song really sounds like Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benetar. It also sounds like Letterbomb. “You're not so young, but you're still dumb” One word: Politicians.

6. Sex, Drugs, and Violence – “Sex, Drugs, and Violence. English, Math, and Science.” That is definitely the catchiest lyric on this album. When I was finished listening to the album that was the only lyric I could remember because it was just that catchy. Mike sings!!!!!

7. A Little Boy Named Train – “Where did you come from? Where have you been? Looks like you fell into the trash bin” That is absolutely brilliant. “I don’t know where I come from, but I know where I have been.” That is also brilliant. This song also reminds me of Know Your Enemy from 21st Century Breakdown.

8. Amanda – “Is this some kind of love that only hate would understand?” That is gold. This song is like a plea for they guy that wants to be with the girl and he tells her that he has changed. She just is not having it. This could be taken as a sad song because Amanda does not accept him. If I think about it too much, I will probably cry.

9. Walk Away – This song is really sad. “This time I’ve gotta put my guard down and pick myself up off the ground. And take the pain” That really made me sad. When I was writing the review for this song in the middle of class, my teacher gave me a weird look. Haha!

10. Dirty Rotten Bastards – This is definitely my favorite song on the album. For the last three albums, up until this point, I think they were really holding back until this song. I feel like they let out everything they were feeling. Gosh, I love this song.

11. 99 Revolutions – “Hit the lights and bang your drum and let your flag unfold. Cause history will prove itself in the hall of justice and lost souls.” That lyric really speaks to me because it says it’s ok to be weird and that weird people will one day rule. J

12. The Forgotten – Billie-Joe always talks about children being left behind (listen to Extraordinary Girl from American Idiot). “Don’t look away from the arms of love.” When I heard that, I just sat in my class and cried.

After listening to the entire trilogy, I can say that Uno is definitely my favorite, followed by Tre. Dos was good too, but just does not compare to the other two. (haha pun intended. Dos means two! ok I know I am not funny.)

Green Day Dos Album Review

So the second album in the new Green Day Trilogy is out. So far, I still like Uno Better, but Dos has its high points. Several songs had me laughing and some had me crying.

1. See You Tonight – This is such a cute album opener.

2. Fuck Time – Billie Joe’s sigh is super sexy. I’m sure that is what he was going for, given the title of the song. The guitar in this song is also really awesome. One of my favorites on this album for sure.

3. Stop When The Red Lights Flash – This sounds a lot like something from 21st Century Breakdown. I love this song because it has a good vibe to it.

4. Lazy Bones – The guitar in this song sounds like “Give Me Novocaine” from American Idiot. I think this song really shows his drug abuse and that is saddening.

5. Wild One – This song has strong 21st Century Breakdown sounds. The way he says “grenade” is really funny. I do not know why I find that humorous.

6. Makeout Party – Am I the only person that thinks this song sounds like Black Flag? This song is very sexual. Billie Joe’s wails…. No comment. ;)

7. Stray Heart – Bass reminds me of Longview and Letterbomb. I am very sorry, but there is one guitar part of this song that reminds me of What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction.

8. Ashley – This is another favorite of mine. I love how he is asking her all the questions. Something about this song is just awesome.

9. Baby Eyes – “They say my middle name is danger. Got to keep away from strangers.” That is great. “I am the motor crashing in your car.” Get mad, Billie-Joe.

10. Lady Cobra – This song’s lyrics are pretty disturbing. But I like them. “I don't want this to end. I just wanna be your friend. Cuddle up with me real tight
Talk to me by candlelight.” That is poetic and romantic brilliancy.

11. Nightlife – I hate this because of the girl that is singing. She just ruins the song for me because I want to hear Green Day.

12. Wow! That’s Loud – Umm why is he singing about a dress?

13. Amy – R.I.P. Amy Winehouse.

I hope everyone can listen to this and get something out of it, because there are numerous things that just make sense about this album.

Green Day Uno! Album Review

Green Day has been one of my favorite bands for as long as I can remember. When I found out they were releasing an album trilogy, I got super excited. Unlike a lot of people, I do not care if the band changes their sound, as long as they make music. I am going to support them no matter what they sound like and I really wish more people were like that. The first album in the trilogy is called Uno.

1. Nuclear Family – This song is a great album opener. This song strongly reminds me of Letterbomb from American Idiot. I love the lyric “Gonna ride the world like a merry-go-round.” It basically speaks to me and says that you just have to ride through life and do your best. I also love the countdown at the end. This song basically foreshadows how the whole album and I love it.

2. Stay The Night – Reminds me of Pop Rocks and Coke and Whatsername. “I wanna break your heart until it makes your stomach turn.” That is so brilliant and I love it. It is a big “screw you” to someone who might have broken your heart. Then it ends with a nice note and says “Stay the night. I don’t wanna say goodbye.”

3. Carpe Diem – This song reminds me of several different songs from Green Day’s past. Walking Contradiction, 21st Century Breakdown, Jesus Of Suburbia, and Before The Lobotomy. I love the lyric that asks the question “Aren’t we all too young to die?”

4. Let Yourself Go – This song is the most punk rock song I have heard in a long time. I want to yell the lyrics to every close-minded person I have ever met in my life. “Small minds tend to think alike” is the truest statement about where I live and I love that I can relate to this song as much as I do. I also love the scream at the end.

5. Kill The DJ – I love the chorus. It is one of my favorite songs on this album. The tune to it is one of those that gets stuck in my head frequently and I just want to dance to it.

6. Fell For You – The first time I heard this song, I hated it. But the more I listened to it, the more I grew to love it. The lyrics are so sweet. “I had a dream that I kissed your lips and it felt so true. Then I woke up as a nervous wreck and I fell for you. I'll spend the night living in denial making paper planes just for a while. I'll crash into you, crash into you. Did you crash in my imagination too?” If someone sang that one part to me, I would melt.

7. Loss Of Control – When the song says, “We're all crazy, you're all crazy now.
Well we're so crazy, you've all gone insane” it reminds me of Letterbomb from American Idiot.

8. Troublemaker – For some odd reason this song reminds me of Last Of The American Girls from 21st Century Breakdown. The song is so random and a little A.D.D. “ Wanna be a Troublemaker. Hey! I like your BMW.” That part makes me chuckle every time. I love when he says “I wouldn't say I'm straight 'cause I'm bent out of shape.” That is just a lyric of epic proportions.

9. Angel Blue – This is probably one of the most fun, but sad songs on this album. It sounds like a teenager wrote it because of the content of the lyrics. “You're just a fucking kid and no one ever gives you a break. You want a seƱorita
and now your heart is gonna break.” It could send a message to send kids away from falling in love because they will just get hurt. At least Billie-Joe has our best interest. ;)

10. Sweet 16 – The first time I heard this song, I almost cried because it is just so sweet (haha pun intended). “You will always be my sweet 16” is so heart warming.

11. Rusty James – This song sounds a lot like Nuclear Family. “And all the losers can't even win for losing.” That lyric is so great. The song sounds like it could be about new bands coming into the scene and how Green Day has been here longer than these new bands. It also reminds me of Letterbomb from American Idiot.

12. Oh Love – This song is probably my least favorite on this album. I heard before the album came out and I thought it was just ok. Luckily, the rest of the songs are not like this one. Even though I do not like this song, I love the Who reference. “Oh Love, won’t you reign on me tonight?” This is definitely influenced by the Who and that is what made this song cool.

Overall, I really like this album and I cannot wait to hear Dos and Tre!
