We Came As Romans Zydeco Birmingham, AL 9/28/14

Every time We Came As Romans comes close, I always go. This time was no different. They were back in Birmingham, and I was so there.

The opening bands were ok, but that was probably my impatience talking.

That being said, the first band was called Palisades. I had never heard of them before but apparently they are going on Warped Tour this year, so they must be somewhat decent.

They played

Your Disease
The Reckoning
A Disasterpiece
Outcasts
High and Low

After them was The Color Morale.

I saw them with WCAR last year and they are not my favorite, but they have a good message. Basically, they were just telling you to never give up on stuff. They also recently released a new album and they played some songs from it.

They played

Damnaged
Smoke and Mirrors
Learned Behavior
Suicide;Stigma
Prey For Me
Strange Comfort

Following them is a band that I have seen so many times over the last year, when I never thought that I would see them at all. That band is For Today. I got to shoot them at Warped Tour this summer and I was so excited to see them again in the smaller setting that I was used to. At one point Mattie Montgomery's son ran onstage and it was the cutest thing.

They played

Break the Cycle (So much crowd response)
Foundation
Molotov
Seraphim
Fight the Silence
Pariah
Devastator
Fearless (Love this song)

Drum roll please... Now it was finally time for We Came As Romans. I waited in line for a long time and almost died trying to get to the front of the crowd.

When they came on stage, I could not wait one more second. The crowd was so anxious and everything started to be pushed forward. The barricade almost broke. These are the kind of shows that I love. Your favorite band in one of your favorite venues is one of the best feelings in the world. Hearing all the people around you screaming every word to every song is also an added bonus.

They played

To Plant a Seed
Roads That Don't End and Views That Never Cease
Ghosts
Fade Away
To Move On Is to Grow
What I Wished I Never Had
A War Inside
Intentions
Glad You Came (The Wanted Cover from Punk Goes Pop 5)
Never Let Me Go
Present, Future, and Past
A Moment
Mis//Understanding
Understanding What We've Grown to Be (I cried. This is my favorite We Came As Romans song.)
Tracing Back Roots

Encore:

Broken Statues
Hope

When this show was over, I had no voice and there were tears running down my face. Or maybe it was sweat. Either way, the show had me in the happiest of tears and those are the best shows.

I cannot wait to see this band again.

Jason Isbell Foothills Festival Jasper, AL 9/13/14

Jason Isbell always brings it live.

Foothills Festival in Jasper was no different.

I have seen Isbell so many times over the last few years and I am always left blown away.

There are not many musicians I would leave an Alabama Football game early for, but Jason Isbell makes the list.

I made it to Jasper just in time for Isbell.

He played

Stockholm
Flying Over Water
Tour Of Duty
Dress Blues
Go It Alone
Streetlights
Decoration Day
Heart on String
Different Days
Travelling Alone
Live Oak
Alabama Pines
Cover Me Up
Relatively Easy
New South Wales
Codeine
Outfit
Danko/Manuel
Super 8

Encore:

Never Gonna Change!

We got almost every song off Southeastern, which is the best album. Duh.

During the show, he talked about a girl he "dated" in the 4th grade who moved to Jasper. He never talked to her again.

He then proceeded to talk about Alabama Football and the local high school football team, which made the crowd erupt into laughter.

Can Isbell play here again soon? Gosh.

Needtobreathe Alabama Theatre Birmingham, AL 9/11/14 and 9/12/14

It is not every year one of your favorite bands does a two night show run on your birthday. Well this year, that happened for me.

Needtobreathe came to Birmingham for two nights at the Alabama Theatre.

Those two times marked the 11th and 12th times of seeing them.

Both nights sets were mirror images of each-other and the energy matched.

It was a Rock and Roll revival of sorts. Both night's sets consisted of

State I'm In
Wanted Man
Float On (Modest Mouse Cover)
Drive All Night
Difference Maker
Multiplied
Oh, Carolina (Changed lyric to Oh, Alabama and Bo jumped in the crowd.)
Wasteland
Keep Your Eyes Open
Washed By The Water
Something Beautiful
Girl Named Tennessee
Brother (Bear and Bo with no microphones and

Encore 1:

The Heart
The Outsiders

Encore 2:

More Heart, Less Attack

Throughout both nights, Bear told stories about they saw The Black Crowes in the building we were in.

Bear gave the stories behind his and Bo's names. Bear said he is all Alabama, then Bo chimed in and said he was on the fence about his name because his real name is Paul, but his nickname is Bo.

The only thing that I thought would happen would be deviation from the setlists and some songs from Daylight.

It was still a wonderful birthday show I hope they come back to Alabama soon because everyone knows I will be there.
