Deftones and Periphery in Mobile, AL at Soul Kitchen 3/23/13

Around Christmas, I found out that Deftones were coming to Mobile. I was sitting in math class and I emailed my mom to tell her to buy my tickets. I’m glad I emailed her when I did because an hour after, they were completely sold out. When the day finally came I was freaking stoked because it was the beginning of my spring break and it was much needed. The first band of the night was Periphery. I had never heard of them before, but I instantly fell in love with them. At the moment, I cannot tell you a single song that they played but I can tell you that they were great and I hope good things come their way. When they were over, I went straight to the merch table to buy their newest CD. Then it was time for Deftones. Every person that was in that crowd was super excited and they were all happy to be there. The crowd really made the show much more memorable. They opened with Diamond Eyes and that really set it off. Every person in that room seemed to know the song and that just made it rock. The next two songs were Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) and My Own Summer (Shove It). I was so excited for MYS(SI) because that is one of my favorite Deftones songs and the crowd rocked. Afterwards, they played

Lhabia
Rosemary
Rocket Skates (big crowd response)
You've Seen the Butcher
Sextape (another big crowd response)
Feiticeira
Digital Bath
Poltergeist (MY SONG!!!!)
Tempest
Swerve City
Headup
Around the Fur
Rivière (Song dedicated to Chi)
Change (In the House of Flies) (Best crowd response of the night)
Bloody Cape
Engine No. 9 (encore)
Root
7 Words (my other favorite song. J)

About halfway through the show, someone in the crowd held up a sign that said he was marrying his girlfriend. Chino responded and said that there would be celebratory drinks later in the night. Not long after that, there were drinks brought to the stage and he toasted to them. He took a sip out of his drink and said “This drink tastes like horse piss!!!” That has to be one of the funniest things I have ever heard at a show and I thought it was nice of Chino to toast to them. I hope their life is filled with happiness because of that night.

Overall, the night was memorable because of the crowd. The crowd absolutely made the show and if Deftones ever comes close again, I will be there.
